Sprite Sheet to GIF

Turn a sprite sheet into an animated GIF in the browser. Match cell size, drag the image onto a fixed grid, Apply, then preview the loop. Nothing is uploaded.

Add a sheet, then Apply to preview the GIF loop.

What does sprite sheet to GIF do?

Converts a sprite sheet into a looping animated GIF. Output is a GIF, not an atlas and not a ZIP of frames.

A spritesheet to gif tool slices even cells in order, previews the loop at your FPS, then encodes an animated GIF. Work stays in the browser.

Drop a PNG or WebP sheet, match cell size, drag the image onto a fixed grid, and Apply before Animation unlocks. Keep transparency when you need a clear background. Packed MaxRects sheets with uneven sprites will look wrong until a JSON cutter exists.

Sprite sheet to GIF converter features

Grid slice, FPS preview, and GIF encode on one page. Frames never leave this tab.

  • Grid or strip slice

Same alignment as the cutter: cell size, columns, rows, spacing, and drag-the-image offset. Apply slices frames left to right, top to bottom.

  • Animation preview and FPS

After Apply fills the left list, Animation opens the same overlay as the homepage maker. Play, pause, and set FPS before you export.

  • Animated GIF export

Download a looping GIF with optional transparency for Discord, itch.io, or a pitch deck.

  • Local, no upload

Slice and encode on your machine. Stay near 4096 pixels if the sheet is huge.

  • PNG sequence works too

Drop several PNG frames if you do not have a packed sheet yet. Names sort naturally.

  • Need PNG files instead?

Sprite sheet cutter downloads a ZIP of frames. This page is GIF-only on export.

How to turn a sprite sheet into a GIF

Drop a PNG spritesheet, align a fixed grid, Apply, preview the loop, and download an animated GIF.

1

Drop the sprite sheet

Add a PNG, JPG, or WebP sprite sheet. Cell width and height start at 100 px. Several PNGs skip the grid and encode as a sequence. An existing GIF re-encodes at the FPS you set.

2

Align the grid

Green lines stay fixed. Drag the image onto the cells. Set cell size so one box is one frame, then edit columns, rows, spacing, and offset on their own.

3

Apply, then preview

Apply fills the left frame list. Animation stays off until those thumbs appear. The overlay matches the homepage maker: play, pause, step, and FPS.

4

Download the GIF

Keep transparency for pixel art if you need it, then download. Need PNG files instead? Open the sprite sheet cutter.

Who sprite sheet to GIF is for

Use this page when the input is a sheet or frame sequence and the output you want is a GIF.

  • Sharing a walk cycle

Turn a Unity, Godot, or Phaser atlas PNG into a GIF so someone without the engine can see the loop.

  • Pixel artists

From spritesheet to GIF for social posts without flattening the loop in a video editor. Aseprite users can export a sheet then convert here.

  • FNF and even-cell sheets

Even-cell FNF PNGs work. XML atlases are not read. Keep transparency on for a no-background GIF.

  • The other direction

GIF to sprite sheet packs an animated GIF into an atlas. The homepage maker packs a folder of PNGs.

Sprite Sheet to GIF FAQ

Grid slice, FPS, looping GIFs, and how this page differs from the sprite sheet maker.

Drop a PNG spritesheet, match cell size on the fixed grid, drag the image to align, click Apply, open Animation, then download the GIF.
FPS is frames per second in the animation preview and in the encoded GIF delay. Leave Loop forever on for a repeating walk cycle; turn it off for a one-shot GIF.
Drop the PNG sprite sheet, align the overlay, Apply so the left list fills, open Animation, then download. That covers how to turn a sprite sheet into a GIF on this page.
Yes. Keep transparency on. Semi-transparent pixels snap to solid or clear in GIF’s 1-bit alpha.
No. This page encodes an animated GIF. A sprite sheet cutter exports individual frame PNGs in a ZIP.
Several PNGs encode as a sequence (names sort naturally). An existing animated GIF re-encodes at the FPS you set. To pack a GIF into a sprite sheet, use GIF to sprite sheet.
No. Slice, preview, and GIF encode run in the browser. Very large sheets are limited by device memory — stay near 4096 pixels when you can.
This tool assumes even cells (grid or strip). Packed MaxRects atlases with uneven sprite sizes will look wrong until a cutter can read atlas JSON. Padding is for gutters between equal cells.
